Division of Neonatology/Department of Pediatrics

University of Miami Miller School of Medicine

The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital has one of the largest, premier, most well-regarded, and longest established neonatal units in the United States.

The goal of the neonatal program of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital is to achieve excellence in all areas of academic endeavor, which encompass patient care, research and medical education.

The Division of Newborn Medicine/Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine consists of full-time academic neonatologists, as well as neonatologists and pediatricians who work as attending physicians in Level II and Intermediate Care areas, the Normal Nursery and ancillary hospital nurseries. In addition, the Division of Newborn Medicine has neonatal fellows and several research fellows in training at any given time, plus research faculty, research staff and administrative staff.

Our past and most recent experience has been characterized by continued success in both clinical and academic pursuits. The number of Newborn Special Care admissions remains substantial and statistics from these patients demonstrate figures for survival and complications that are amongst the best compared to those reported for the state of Florida and nationally. In addition, the division continues to be successful in its academic activities, including the obtaining of significant grant funding, the publication of numerous papers in peer-review journals, the large number of research presentations at regional and national research meetings, the invitation of division faculty members to give faculty lectureships throughout the world, and the attraction of high quality neonatal fellows.
